Recycle Your Tree Curbside After the Holidays
Trees will be collected over a three-week period on regular collection days from December 26, 2022 through January 13, 2022. If your tree is more than six feet in length, please cut it in half and place it in your organics (green) cart on your scheduled pick-up day. Alternatively, you can place your tree curbside for collection. Be sure to remove all decorations, including ornaments, tinsel, lights, and tree stand.
For more information, contact Athens Services at (805) 852-5264.
Extra Cardboard Recycling
As a special holiday service, Thousand Oaks residents may place flattened corrugated cardboard (cardboard boxes) that will not fit inside your blue recycling cart next to your recycling cart during the three-week period beginning December 26, 2022.
No Waste Gift Giving Ideas
Here are a few ideas and suggestions on how to have a more environmentally friendly holiday season.
- Wrap gifts in creative wrapping paper substitutes such as decorated brown paper grocery bags, children's art work, old maps, newspapers, Sunday comics, or fancy holiday gift bags that can be reused
- If you use traditional wrapping, look for recycled-content wrapping paper.
- When giving oversized gifts like bicycles or furniture, instead of using wrapping, simply tie a bow around them.
- Think of gifts that don't require wrapping, like tickets to concerts, sporting events, museums, gift certificates, house plants, or even gifts of your own time.
- If you send holiday cards, buy recycled content cards and envelopes.
