Using up a product for its intended use, or giving the material to someone who can, is the best practice for any household product, and the principle behind the City's Material Reuse Program. This program takes useable household products collected at the City's monthly Household Hazardous Waste Collection events and makes them available to the public FREE of charge, saving the City disposal costs in addition to saving residents on the costs of purchasing new products.
