City Officials Appointed to League of CA Cities Policy Committees
The League of California Cities 2021 Councilmember Appointments to represent the Channel Counties Division have been announced and the City of Thousand Oaks is proud to have both Council and Staff representation for the Region:
Mayor Claudia Bill-de la Peña: Housing, Community and Economic Development
Mayor Pro Tempore Bob Engler: Transportation, Communication and Public Works
The League has seven standing policy committees: Community Services; Governance, Transparency and Labor Relations; Environmental Quality; Housing, Community and Economic Development; Public Safety; Revenue and Taxation; and Transportation, Communications and Public Works.
“Participating in the League’s policy committees is an important opportunity to discuss and shape policies that affect our communities, especially in this challenging time of recovery and change,” said Mayor Claudia Bill-de la Peña. “The outcome of these meetings helps to influence the state’s decisions on legislation and it’s important that our region’s unique perspective is represented across several committees.”
Over 400 elected and appointed city officials serve on policy committees and participate directly in establishing League policy. They review bills introduced by the legislature and add their collective expertise, wisdom, and opinions to debate policy supporting local interests. Cal Cities’ Board of Directors considers the recommendations from the policy committee when making. The time commitment involves three to four meetings, beginning in January and ending at the League’s annual conference in the fall. Meeting locations rotate from north to south, but due to COVID-19, all meetings will be virtual for 2021.
In addition to the Councilmember appointments, City Staff have also been appointed to two committees:
Heather Cousin, Library Services Director: Community Services
Mina Layba, Legislative Affairs Manager: Environmental Quality
About Cal Cities: The League of California Cities is an association of California city officials who work together to enhance their knowledge and skills, exchange information, and combine resources so that they may influence policy decisions that affect cities.
