September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Thousand Oaks Library joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.

This year, DC’s Wonder Woman is embarking on a mission to champion the power of a library card as Library Card Sign-up Month Honorary Chair. Lasso a Library Card and Find Your Super Power!

There is nothing more empowering than signing up for your own library card. Through access to technology, media resources and educational programs, a library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams and passions. At the Thousand Oaks Library, you’ll find a wide variety of educational resources and activities, including virtual storytimes, tutorials, and technology training classes.

Library cards empower students and fuel academic success. With eResources from the Virtual Library, students can get help with schoolwork or homework. Brainfuse HelpNow provides trained, one-on-one tutors for students, kindergarten and up, from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. everyday. All you need is your library card and PIN.

Thousand Oaks Library, along with libraries everywhere, continue to adapt and expand services to meet the evolving needs of our community. Please visit www.tolibrary.org to sign up for a library card or to learn more about the library’s resources and programs.

Sign up for a library card during September and receive a complimentary prize. All patrons are invited to pick up a free Color Craze Bookmark with their Curbside Pickup service materials. A random winner will be awarded a special “Golden Lasso” gift bag during each day Curbside Service is open – while supplies last.

Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the ALA and libraries unite together in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card. There's something for every student at the Thousand Oaks Library.

For more information, please visit the Library’s website, www.tolibrary.org or contact Ask-a-Librarian during open hours at 805-449-2660, option 5.
