City Issues Moratorium on Commercial Evictions

Effective immediately, a temporary moratorium on eviction has been issued for non-payment of rent by commercial tenants impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. The City of Thousand Oaks City Manager, Andrew Powers, signed an executive order as authorized by the City’s emergency declaration. The executive order sets guidelines for landlords when assessing a tenant’s claim to be unable to pay rent due to the impact of COVID-19. The order also outlines how past-due rent is to be repaid after the emergency declaration is lifted.

“The small businesses in Thousand Oaks have been our economic partners for years, and now they need our help. This temporary moratorium will provide relief to many.” said Mayor Al Adam. “We need small businesses to be here when we come out of this. They are the backbone of the vibrant economy we have in Thousand Oaks.”

The City previously approved a moratorium on residential evictions as part of the City’s emergency declaration.
