February Events for Children and Young Adults at the Thousand Oaks Library 

CHILDREN

Make & Take: Watercolor Puzzle

Create a watercolor puzzle just in time for Valentine’s Day. The event is recommended for school-age children. Programs will take place on February 6, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Newbury Park Library Meeting Room and February 11, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room.

STEAM: Rockets

Assemble a paper rocket and then watch your creations blast off. The event is recommended for school-age children. Program will be on February 13, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Parking Lot.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover

Join us for a fun pajama Storytime with activities for children and their special stuffed animal friends and then tuck them in at the Library. Follow their overnight adventure via the Library’s social media pages. Pick up your stuffed animal the next morning at the Children’s Library Help Desk. Special thanks to the LeDuc-Gummerson Foundation for their generosity and sponsorship of this program. Program will take place on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room.

Virtual Reality: Out of this World

Experience outer space through virtual reality.Try the outer space programs on the Oculus Rift and Oculus Go at your Library. Recommended for grades 6 and up. Sign up for a 10-minute session on February 8, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Technology Training Room and February 22 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Newbury Park Library Technology Room.

Teen Trivia: Out of this World

The theme for this trivia will be “Out of this World,” which will explore outer space, science fiction, astronauts and rocket technology. Individuals or a team of 2 people can compete to win gift cards. Children must be in Grades 6-12 to compete. To guarantee your spot, come early and sign-up before Trivia Session, as space may be limited. Program will be on February 26, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room.

Video Gaming Wednesdays

Super Smash Bros @ The Library

Play Super Smash Bros on Nintendo Switch every third Wednesday of the month. Program will be on February 20, 2019 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Newbury Park Library Technology Room.

Design a Spaceship - 3D Printing Class

Teens grades 6-12 can learn how to use Tinkercad to design and create a 3D mini model spaceship. Register at the Library Information Desk or call 805-449-2660. Space for class is limited. Program will be held on February 15, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Technology Training Room.

Practice SAT Test with Revolution Prep

Take a free practice SAT test to help you strategize and prepare for taking the real SAT. Revolution Prep will be proctoring a practice SAT Test and they can provide feedback and insight on a student’s multiple-choice answers and essay. Participation will require setting up a free account with Revolution Prep to submit test and essay for feedback. Registration recommended to guarantee a spot. Register at the Library Information Desk or call 805-449-2660. Sign in at 7:30 a.m. Program takes place on February 2, 2019 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Thousand Oak Library Community Room.

Practice ACTTM Test with Revolution Prep
