Know the 10 Signs

If you or someone you know is experiencing memory loss or behavioral changes, it’s time to learn the facts. Early detection of Alzheimer’s disease gives you a chance to begin drug therapy, enroll in clinical studies and plan for the future. Presented by Julie Reed of the Alzheimer’s Association, this interactive workshop features video clips of people with Alzheimer’s disease. It will be held on February 25, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Tech Training Room.

Ventura County Master Gardeners: Create a Water Wise Garden

Each month, January through May, the Master Gardeners will share their expertise about a variety of gardening topics. Their mission is to enhance the well-being of people, plants and the environment through science-based gardening. The program will be on February 11, 2019 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room.

Book Club in a Box

Book Club in a Box gets great literature into the hands of your book club members quickly. Each box contains 10 copies of a single title, and discussion questions. Browse our 47 title boxes located next to the Friends Book Sale.

Crafternoon

Paper Quilling Heart: This month we’ll be creating a simple heart with paper quilling to keep the spirit of love going throughout the month. All instructions and supplies provided while supplies last. The program will be held on February 22, 2019 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Tech Training Room.

Adult Coloring

Relax with friends and other coloring enthusiasts. Coloring sheets, colored pencils, and markers are provided or bring your own. The program will be on February 8, 2019 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room.

Monday Movie Matinee

The Grant R. Brimhall Library will have a free screening ofThe House with a Clock in Its Walls” (PG, 2018, 104 min.) on February 11, 2019 and Searching (PG-13, 2018, 101 min.) on February 25, 2019. Screenings take place in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room at 1:00 p.m. 

Open Mic Poetry Night

Join a diverse local poetry community to read, listen, encourage, and inspire, with Phil Taggart, Ventura County Poet Laureate, and host Ken Jones. Programs will be on February 13, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Newbury Park Library Meeting Room and February 27, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room. Featured Readers are Ann Buxie and Jean Colonomos on February 27, 2019.

Beginning Tai Chi 

Join instructor Ron Hickman to discover how Tai Chi can help to improve your balance, increase your range of motion and lower blood pressure. Must be able to stand unassisted for an hour. Classes continue February 5 and 12 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room.

Yoga for Beginners and Boomer

Join us for a safety-conscious, lighthearted yoga class which will help you improve balance and create space in both mind and body. This class is great for people brand new to yoga or who want to avoid strenuous practice. Please bring a mat or a towel. Participants should be able to get on and off the floor. Classes continue February 1, 15, 22 (no session on Feb. 8) from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room.

Tabletop Saturdays @ Your Library

Dungeons and Dragons @ Your Library has expanded, as we now welcome the biggest trading card game in the world, Magic the Gathering. Tables will be available for Magic and D & D players alike. Meet with friends and make new ones with the greatest tabletop fantasy games available today. Grouped by age: 10-14 yrs. and 15+ yrs. For more information, please call 449-2260, option #5. The games will take place on February 2, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room and February 23, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Newbury Park Meeting Room.

Conejo Valley Genealogical Society, Genealogy Tools Class:

Create a GEDCOM using genealogy software and GEDCOM genealogy upload websites. Held on February 12, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Conference Room.
