Create Your Happy: Design a Home You Love by Practicing the Art of Organization 

Start the new year by turning your home into the retreat you know you want, by designing with a purpose. Cynthia Montoya of Urban Gypsy Styled gives creative insights into design functionality. Organize and paint the canvas where your memories will be made for years to come. The program takes place January 26, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room.

Ventura County Master Gardeners: All About Roses

Once a month from January through May, the Master Gardeners will share tips about a variety of gardening topics. Their mission is to enhance the well-being of people, plants and the environment through science-based gardening. The first program will take place on January 14, 2019 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room.

Book Club in a Box

Book Club in a Box gets great literature into the hands of your book club members quickly. Each box contains 10 copies of a single title along with discussion questions. Browse our 47 title boxes located next to the Friends book sale.

ESL Conversation Group (Grupo de Conversación)

Practice speaking English with other ESL learners in an informal and friendly group setting.

Create a Vision Board

Did you make a New Year’s Resolution? A Vision Board is a collage of pictures and words created to be a source of inspiration and motivation. Visualize your future to help you reach life goals on January 19, 2019 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Newbury Park Library Meeting Room. All supplies provided.

Crafternoon

For the first Crafternoon of the year, we’ll create a light and airy mobile or wall hanging. Join other crafters every fourth Friday to learn and complete a new craft idea. Bring your friends or meet some new ones on January 25, 2019 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Newbury Park Library Meeting Room. All instructions and supplies provided while supplies last.

Adult Coloring

Relax with friends and other coloring enthusiasts. Coloring sheets, colored pencils, and markers are provided or bring your own. Adult coloring takes place on January 18, 2019 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room.

Monday Movie Matinee

The Grant R. Brimhall Library will have a free screening of Crazy Rich Asians (PG-13, 2018, 120 min.) on January 14, 2019, and Puzzle (R, 2018, 103 min.) on January 28, 2019. Screenings take place in the Community Room at 1:00 p.m. 

Tuesday Movie Night

The Newbury Park Library will have a free screening of Armageddon (PG-13, 1998, 151 min.) on January 8, 2019, Deep Impact (PG-13, 1998, 121 min.) on January 15, 2019, The Astronaut Farmer (PG-13, 2006, 104 min.) on January 22, 2019, and Apollo 13 (PG, 1995, 140 min.) on January 29, 2019. Screenings take place in the Meeting Room at 6:30 p.m. 

Open Mic Poetry Night

Join a diverse local poetry community to read, listen, encourage, and inspire. In partnership with Phil Taggart, Ventura County Poet Laureate, and host Ken Jones. Events take place on January 9, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Newbury Park Meeting Room and January 23, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room.

Tabletop Saturdays @ Your Library

Dungeons and Dragons @ Your Library has expanded as we now welcome the biggest trading card game in the world, Magic the Gathering. Tables will be available for Magic and D&D players alike. Meet with friends and make new ones with the greatest tabletop fantasy games available today. Grouped by age: 10-14 years and 15+ years. For more information please call (805) 449-2260, option 5. The games begin January 26, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Newbury Park Meeting Room.

DNA Special Interest Group

The DNA Special Interest Group from Conejo Valley Genealogical Society will host a webinar: “Perspectives on Combining Genealogy and Genetics” by Gilad Japhet from “MyHeritage” on January 7, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room.

Beginning Genealogy: 20 tips

Jim Cyr will talk about the top genealogy software, genealogy book websites, and the Thousand Oaks Library beginner books on January 22, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. in the Thousand Oak Library Community Room.
