Special Holiday Waste Collection Services & Schedule Changes

christmas treeWith the holidays quickly approaching, keep these extra season perks and schedule changes in mind to ensure a smooth holiday season:

Holiday Collection and Street Sweeping Schedules
There will be no waste collection service on Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25th) or New Years Day (Wednesday, January 1st).  Trash, recycling and green waste routes that would have been collected on these days will be picked up on the following day, and for the remainder of the week waste collection will be one day behind the regular schedule (Friday routes will be picked up on Saturday). The holidays will not affect Monday and Tuesday customers.

Street sweeping service will be similarly delayed by one day on and following December 25th and January 1st. To see if your street is impacted please see the schedule on our street sweeping services page.

For additional information regarding trash collection and street sweeping scheduling please contact your local service provider (street sweeping service is managed by your solid waste company):

Newbury Disposal (Dos Vientos & Newbury Park): (805) 647-1414

Waste Management (Thousand Oaks): (805) 522-9400

Extra Trash for Two Weeks
For two weeks following Christmas, residents may place out up to twice the amount of trash at no extra charge to be disposed of on your collection day.  Please make sure the trash is in bags, flatten cardboard boxes and place the extra trash next to your trash cart.

Holiday Tree Curbside Recycling
For two weeks following Christmas, you can recycle your Christmas tree in your green waste bin. Just remember these guidelines:

  1. Remove all decorations, hooks, tinsel, lights, nails and the tree stand (wood or metal)
  2. Cut your tree into sections no greater than 4 ft. long and place them in your green waste cart.  Do not bag your tree. Flocked trees can also be recycled in your green waste bin.

Holiday Light Strand Disposal
Unwanted or broken holiday light strands can be dropped off at our Hazardous Waste Facility after making an appointment, but keep in mind we are closed until January 3, 2020. Click here to make an appointment.

City Hall Schedule
City Hall will be closed Wednesday, December 25, 2019 through Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Normal City Hall business hours will resume on Thursday, January 2, 2020.
