THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., July 1, 2024- The following is a list of programs happening at the Thousand Oaks Library during the month of July with GRB denoting Grant R. Brimhall Library and NPL denoting Newbury Park Library.

ALL AGES

Join Summer Reading Club and Earn Rewards for Reading!   

June 17 to August 11, 2024 

Complete Summer Reading Club (SRC) by reading 8 books or reading 8 hours to earn a reward from our Treasure Chest and a ticket to enter one of the Grand Prize Opportunity Drawings. All ages welcome. Track your reading either on paper OR online. Learn more at www.tolibrary.org/src 

Gosh Yarn It 

Friday, July 12 • 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm • GRB Community Room 

Relax, crochet, and socialize at our crochet club! Beginners and experts alike are welcome to bring your own supplies and hang out with fellow crocheters as we sip tea and work on our projects. For ages 11+.  

The Great Puzzle Race   

Saturday, July 21 • 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm • GRB Community Room 

Gather your team of up to 4 people to race each other and the clock to see who can complete a 500-piece puzzle first. Each team will receive the same 500-piece puzzle provided by the library and will have 90 minutes to complete it. The team that finishes first or completes the most before time is called wins! Registration required.  

Adventure At Your Library Story Slam 

Friday, July 26 • 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm • GRB Community Room 

Writers of all ages are invited to submit a short story, 1200 words or less, based on this year’s Summer Reading Club theme of “Adventure Begins at Your Library.” All stories must be submitted by Friday, July 12th at the Information desk or submitted via email at info@tolibrary.org. The top 8 stories will be selected to be read. A winner will receive a gift card!

Dog Days

Readers of all levels and abilities are invited to come and read to a certified therapy dog! Participants will sign up for a brief 10-minute session with a dog and their owner. Recommended for school-age.

Virtual Author Talk: A Visit to Deckawoo Drive with Mercy Watson and Kate DiCamillo

Join us for a visit to Deckawoo Drive with everyone’s favorite adventure loving pig, Mercy Watson! Newbery Medal winning author Kate DiCamillo will be sharing the stories behind the creation of her early chapter book series, the original Mercy Watson, and the follow up series, Tales from Deckawoo Drive. We will also be celebrating the publication of the final book in the Mercy Watson series!

Virtual Author Talk: Surviving the Summer with The Last Kids on Earth and Max Brallier

Would you survive a zombie apocalypse? Join us to talk with New York Times bestselling author Max Brallier about The Last Kids on Earth, both the book series and the animated series on Netflix. In this virtual event, Max will share how he came up with the different monsters and villains as well as the unique ways that Jack and his friends figure out to defeat them.

Virtual Author Talk: Graphic Novels are Life! Telling Your Own Story in a Graphic Novel with Dan Santat
