 National Library Card Sign-Up Month

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., September 6, 2023 - September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Thousand Oaks Library joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.

There is nothing more empowering than signing up for your own library card. With access to technology, media resources and educational programs, a library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides people of all ages opportunities to learn new skills or pursue their passions.

Library cards empower students and fuel academic success. With eResources from the Virtual Library, students can get help with homework. Brainfuse HelpNow provides free, one-on-one tutors for students Kindergarten and up every day. For lifelong learners, Brainfuse JobNow and CAreer Pathways connects job seekers to essential services and resources for personal development. All you need is a library card to get started.

Libraries offer everything from early literacy programs to homework help to technology training classes, helping transform lives and communities through education. At the Thousand Oaks Library, patrons will find a wide variety of educational and recreational resources and programs, including book clubs, story times, craft classes, concerts, movies, and ESL Conversation Groups.

With a library card you can discover new and exciting worlds! From borrowing audiobooks to streaming movies to taking virtual Do-It-Yourself classes, there is so much you can access with a library card. Additionally, library card holders can check out items from the "Library of Things," a collection of non-traditional materials including games, kits, electronics and more.

The Library of Things includes:
