September is National Preparedness Month
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., August 31, 2023 - September is National Preparedness Month, which serves as a reminder of the significance of personal readiness for emergency incidents such as fires, floods, or earthquakes that can strike without warning.
The City of Thousand Oaks encourages all residents to participate in emergency preparedness measures, including assembling an emergency supply kit, formulating a family emergency plan, and learning more about the potential emergencies that can impact all of us.
The 2023 theme for National Preparedness Month is "Take Control in 1, 2, 3" which focuses on preparing older adults for disasters. Older adults can face more significant risks regarding extreme weather events and emergencies, especially if they live alone, are low-income, have a disability, or live in rural areas.
Residents who identify as older adults or work with and support older adult communities are encouraged to learn more at www.ready.gov/older-adults and www.ready.gov/es/adultos-mayores.
