Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA) Announces Monthly Volunteer Trail Workdays

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., July 25, 2023 - The Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA) is expanding community volunteer opportunities to include monthly trail workdays. In contrast to the historic Fall and Spring community trail workdays that draw up to 150 volunteers, the monthly events will take on smaller projects with crews of approximately 20 volunteers. The expansion will provide more opportunities for community members to participate in trail building and maintenance projects and provide COSCA the opportunity to address a wider variety of trail projects distributed throughout the open space and trail system. The expanded commitment to volunteer programs is made possible by the addition of four new rangers over the past year and a half.

“With 170 miles of trails to maintain, COSCA has a big job. Activating a community of active trail users to assist expands our capacity to provide safe outdoor experiences for residents and visitors,” says COSCA Administrator Brian Stark.

“COSCA rangers are looking forward to working more closely with community volunteers and increasing the pace of trail repairs and maintenance activity,” states Kory Prindle, COSCA’s Supervising Park Ranger.

Those interested in volunteering on trail projects can register for volunteer events through the Conejo Recreation and Park District website at www.crpd.org. Simply click the pink “Registration” button and search for “COSCA” to find event dates and locations. Each event will have sign-up limits to match the number of volunteers to the needs of the project. Those interested in getting alerts for upcoming volunteer opportunities are encouraged to sign up as a volunteer with COSCA’s partners at the Conejo Open Space Foundation (COSF) at www.cosf.org.
