December Programs at the Thousand Oaks Library
BrainFuse HelpNow is a free online tutoring service available daily. For grades kindergarten through adult learners. Through HelpNow, live real-time homework assistance in core K-12 subjects is available by laptop, tablet, or phone from qualified tutors using state curriculum and standards. Assistance is available in English and Spanish for Language Arts and Mathematics. For California residents, a library card is not required to access HelpNow. California residents can access HelpNow for free using the link provided through the library’s Virtual Library.
Students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade can get free homework help from volunteers at the Grant R. Brimhall Library and Newbury Park Library. The Homework Help Center is open at the Newbury Park Library Meeting Room on Mondays from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Tuesdays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and at the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Closed on all CVUSD holidays and breaks.
Get creative and practice using fine motor skills with Super Puffs. This program will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room. For ages 3-5. Walk-ins welcome.
Readers of all levels and abilities are invited to read to a certified therapy dog! Participants will sign up for a brief 10-minute session with a dog and their owner. This program will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Newbury Park Library Meeting Room.
For ages 5-8. Join us as we read Miss Twiggley's Tree by Dorothea Fox and make a tree ornament. This program will be held on Monday, December 5, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room. Registration required.
Create up to three buttons, keychains, or bookmarks. This program will be held Monday, December 12, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room, and on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Newbury Park Library Meeting Room. Recommended for school age. While supplies last. Walk-ins welcome.
Winter Break Craft
Stop by either library from December 17 – December 31 and create your own winter craft.
All through December 2022 Tweens and Teens are invited to come to the Library and pick-up a “Books for Buttons and Boba” form. Finish a book, get a button and enter for a chance for a Boba gift card. The more books you finish, the more chances to win. Grades 6-12.
Check out our new Book & Movie Club in a Box featuring the story The Maze Runner Start your own book club with friends. Read the book, watch the movie, and get inspired by suggested discussions and activities. Check it out at the Library Teen Space along with other Book and Movie Club boxes.
Calling Teen Artists – We will have a High School Art Showcase at the Grant R. Brimhall Library in January. If you are a High School Teen interested in showcasing your art at the Library, please fill out an application form and submit to the library by Dec. 31st. Details at: www.tolibrary.org/teens.
Recommended ages 11 and up. Get an introduction into 3D printing at the Library. Learn about how you can design and create your own designs of little gifts, cookie cutters or holiday ornaments through TinkerCAD. Ages 10-12 are invited to join us on the second Tuesday of every month to discuss books with strong female characters. This program will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Children’s Program Room. Registration Required.
This Holiday Workshop series for teens is hosted by Jemma Wildermuth of CReATE STUDIO, offering D.I.Y. themed eco arts and crafts projects using recycled and crafty material.
