City of Thousand Oaks Students Ride Free and New Extended Service Hours and Bus Routes
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., September 1, 2022 - Effective September 1, all students in grades 1-12 attending any public or private school in Thousand Oaks ride Thousand Oaks Transit buses for free, all hours of operation The cost-saving enhancement to public bus services is being funded through a grant that will allow students to ride for free on all Thousand Oaks Transit buses and any bus in Ventura County (Metro and Commuter Express buses excluded). This program compliments the existing College Free Ride program which has been extended for another year.
Students in grades 1-12 who are ADA qualified, may also use Dial-a-Ride without cost under this program.
Beginning September 6, 2022, the City of Thousand Oaks will extend fixed route and Dial-A-Ride service hours and implement new fixed route schedules due to high school bell schedule changes.
Fixed route service will extend by two hours, running from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays and 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Dial-A-Ride service will also extend two hours, running from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays and 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
With the new service hours extension, the Thousand Oaks Transportation Center will also extend its operating hours and will be open from 4:45 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. on weekdays and 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturdays (closed Sundays).
New fixed route schedules will also go into effect. Riders may notice their usual departure times may have changed significantly. Additionally, two new stops have been added at Moorpark Road at Wilbur Avenue on Route 42 and Hillcrest Drive. and Rancho Road (Encino Vista) on Route 44.
For exact departure times, please refer to the timetable posted at each stop or at the Thousand Oaks Transportation center. Bus schedules, an updated rider guide, and detailed information regarding the new service hours can be found online at www.totransit.org. Printed bus brochures will be available soon at City Hall, the Transportation Center, and onboard buses.
