September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Thousand Oaks Library joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.

There is nothing more empowering than signing up for your own library card. Through access to technology, media resources and educational programs, a library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams and passions.

Libraries offer everything from early literacy programs to virtual homework help and technology training classes, helping transform lives and communities through education. At the Thousand Oaks Library, patrons will find a wide variety of educational resources and programs, including book clubs, story times, and ESL Conversation Groups.

Library cards empower students and fuel academic success. With eResources from the Virtual Library, students can get help with schoolwork or homework. Brainfuse HelpNow provides free, one-on-one tutors for students Kindergarten and up from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. everyday. For lifelong learners, Brainfuse JobNow connects job seekers with live coaches for resume assistance, interview preparation, and more. For small business owners, Gale Business: Plan Builder helps entrepreneurs through the entire business development process with step-by-step guides and planning tools. All you need is a library card to get started.

Thousand Oaks Library, along with libraries everywhere, continues to adapt and expand services to meet the evolving needs of the community. Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year.
