Join us for a screening of the 1 hr. PBS documentary Searchlight Serenade which documents the stories of nine Japanese detainees who nurtured their love of music while interned in relocation camps during WWII. They formed bands to play the popular music of the day, big band and swing, as a soulful escape for themselves and others. In 1942, 15-year old Frances “Chickie” Ishihara White, began her singing career behind barbed wire at the Minidoka War Relocation Center. She will answer questions and share her experience.
