National Women’s History Month - Women Composers: Music for Flute & Piano

Historically, notable women composers have not always had the same recognition as their male counterparts, although equally as talented. Flutist Ann Erwin and pianist Edith Orloff will perform selections from composers Clara Schumann, Lili Boulanger, Katherine Hoover, and Claude Arrieu. Concert will be on March 10 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. in the Thousand Oaks Library Community Room.

A versatile performer, pianist Edith Orloff is acclaimed as recitalist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist whose music-making is praised at home and abroad for interpretive vitality and perceptive musicianship. Ms. Orloff holds two degrees from CalArts, where she studied piano with Earle Voorhies and chamber music with Cesare Pascarella. She is a founding member of the Los Angeles-based Pacific Trio, with violinist Roger Wilkie and cellist John Walz, which regularly tours the U.S. and Europe and is featured on numerous international radio broadcasts. In addition to her long-time summer faculty position at Idyllwild Arts, Edith Orloff also teaches privately and in master class.

Flutist Ann Erwin earned a Master of Music degree from USC and a B.A. with a double major in music and mathematics from UC San Diego. Ms. Erwin has performed in concerts and recitals in France, Spain, Germany, Mexico, Canada, and throughout the United States, including performances of contemporary music at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, the Staatsbibliothek in Berlin, and the National Flute Association convention. She is a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Music Teachers Association of California, and the National Flute Association.
