“The Long Sadness: The WWI Diary of William Bell”

War to End All Wars: 100 Years: This year marks the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI on “the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.”

At age 17, Bill Ball lift his native Cornwall and immigrated on his own to western Canada. By age 20 he was in the Canadian Army fighting in the trenches in France and Belgium. He recorded the adventure and brutal realities of war in his diary.  Nearly one hundred years later, his granddaughter, Susan C. McGrath, transcribed and annotated Ball’s diary, adding historical relevancy and poignant perspective to Ball’s firsthand account of “The War to End All Wars.”  Meet the author at the Grant R. Brimhall Library on Wednesday, November 7 from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
