| Friends of the Civic Arts Plaza The Friends of the Civic Arts Plaza is an auxiliary non-profit organization created by the City Council in 1993. The Friends provide volunteer ushers and serve as ambassadors of goodwill for the Countrywide Performing Arts Center to the patrons, performers and the community of Thousand Oaks. The Civic Arts Plaza offers friends of the theatre an opportunity to join a dedicated team which supports and encourages the performing arts. Our volunteer program is designed to allow individuals to utilize their talents, skills and previous organizational experience in support of the Civic Arts Plaza. The Friends are managed by a 21-member Board of Directors. The Directors are elected by the general membership at the Friends annual general meeting in May. Board meetings are held on a monthly basis and each committee will conduct monthly meetings. To join the Friends, fill out the membership application and send to the Membership Committee along with your membership dues. Friends Support Children’s Programs Money is raised through the Friends Gift Shop operations to fund grants to eligible performing arts organizations. The Friends grants enable these organizations to offer discounted or free tickets to bring school children that might otherwise not be able to enjoy the theatre experience. Since its inception in 1993, the Friends have raised over $115,000 for this purpose. Extra Benefits As members of the Friends of the Civic Arts Plaza your membership card entitles you to: - 10% at the gift shops at the Countrywide Performing Arts Center
