| Bodie House Music at the Thousand Oaks Library A collaboration between Renee Bodie and Library Director Steve Brogden. Renee Bodie has been presenting house concerts in her home for many years, developing over the years personal relationships with many of the country's top acoustic artists. After attending one of those concerts, Steve contacted Renee and asked if the basic concept could work in a larger setting, perhaps a library setting. She was enthusiastic and the concert series began in April 2008. Renee's contacts in the singer-song-writer world have allowed the Thousand Oaks Library to be able to present to the community some of the most talented and prolific acoutistic artists performing today. Brimhall Library, 8pm; Suggested Donation: $20 RSVP/TICKETS SARAH LEE GUTHRIE was two years old when she made her singing debut as part of a children s chorus on Arlo's 1981 album, Power of Love. After high school, she became tour-manager for her father, but it wasn't until she met Johnny in the fall of 1997 that she recognized her musical calling. JOHNNY IRION came out of the vibrant Carolina indie-rock scene of the early '90s, first as a member of Queen Sarah Saturday and later with Dillon Fence.
Friday, September 10, 2010 - David Wilcox Grant R. Brimhall Library, 8pm; Suggested Donation: $20 The New York Daily News said DAVID WILCOX gave "sensitive singer/songwriters back their good name." A self-taught guitar player who experiments with a variety of tunings, Wilcox backs his thought-provoking lyrics with fluid guitar work. He has won a loyal following through his memorable live performances, which he takes pride in adapting to different audiences. Wilcox was well regarded from the start and became one of the most popular in a new generation of American folk artists. He writes thoughtful songs about intimate subjects, such as romantic commitment; many of the songs seem almost confessional. His guitar work is intricate and flowing. Critically acclaimed early in his career, he was often referred to as the "new James Taylor" and also won comparisons with such British folk artists as Nick Drake and John Martyn. He quickly became an established touring musician.
Sunday, October 10, 2010 - The Dreamsicles and Radoslav Lorkovic Grant R. Brimhall Library, 8pm; Suggested Donation: $20 Introducing THE DREAMSICLES - the Texas based folk/pop duo featuring Tom Prasada-Rao and Cary Cooper. Two voices and a guitar, intricate harmonies with a little cheerleading thrown in, singing love songs for grown ups. They've been touring together for two years, and have just finished their second CD. Both Tom and Cary are Kerrville New Folk Competition Winners - accomplished songwriters in their own right. They draw on their experience in classical violin, musical theater, raising kids, and living in the third world to create songs which navigate the territory between Everything But The Girl and Leonard Cohen, Lucy Kaplansky and Krishna Das. RADOSLAV LORKOVIC was born in Zagreb, Croatia. Drawing from a multitude of influences ranging from elegant classical and jazz styles to the rawest, most basic blues, country and soul, Radoslav has taken on an unusually broad musical spectrum and refined it into his distinctive piano stlye. His tenure on the R&B and folk circuits has culminated in five critically acclaimed solo recordings and numerous appearances on the recordings of and performances with artists including Odetta, Jimmy LaFave, Ribbon of Highway Woody Guthrie Tribute, Greg Brown, Richard Shindell, Ellis Paul, Dave Moore, Andy White and Bo Ramsey. His twenty year touring career has led him from the taverns of the upper Mississippi River to the castles of Italy, The Canary Islands, The Yup'ik villages of Alaska and Carnegie Hall. Saturday, October 30, 2010 - Ronny Cox/Jack Williams Grant R. Brimhall Library, 8pm; Suggested Donation: $20 RONNY COX is a talented musician and performer who is best known for his acting career. He has appeared in many classic movies such as Deliverance (Drew Ballinger), Bound For Glory (Ozark Bule), The Onion Field (Det. Sgt. Pierce R. Brooks), Taps (Colonel Kerby), Beverly Hills Cop (Lt. Andrew Bogomil), RoboCop (Dick Jones), and Total Recall (Vilos Cohaagen) to name just a few. He's also appeared on TV countless times including stints on "St. Elsewhere" (Dr. John Gideon) and "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (Captain Edward Jellico). But Ronny's real love is music and he spends half of his time performing at folk festivals, concert venues and small intimate theaters. He has performed musically on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Bottom Line in New York with Leon Redbone, National Public Radio's Mountain Stage with Guy Clark, as well as other national stages. The music of JACK WILLIAMS, rooted in his native South Carolina, is shaped by a 51-year career of playing folk, rock, jazz, R&B, classical and the popular music of the 30s, 40s and 50s. He is counted among the most dynamic performers on today's "folk" circuit - "...one of the most enlightened and entertaining performers I've ever encountered", said Dave Humphreys of Two-Way Street Coffeehouse in Downer's Grove, IL. Avoiding the compromises of the commercial music industry during his 50+-year professional career, Jack prefers touring under the radar, playing concerts, large and small, week in and week out, from the sheer love of music and performing.
