| | Weed Abatement Program Each April, as required by the Ventura County Fire Hazard Reduction Program, the City of Thousand Oaks Public Works Department begins its annual weed abatement program. Eighty percent of the work is removed mechanically (by tractor mower), and the remaining twenty percent is removed by hand crews.
The weed abatement work begins in the Westlake area, continues in the Thousand Oaks area, and concludes in the Newbury Park area. This work is scheduled to be completed by the City's Landscape Special Projects crews by June. The type of fire hazards removed from public areas and Public Works controlled open space includes seasonal and recurrent weeds, brush, dry grass, dry leaves, and tumbleweeds.
