 Randy Pentis, Chief of Police
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Thousand Oaks Police Department and its web site.  The dedicated men and women of the Thousand Oaks Police Department are committed to insuring that our city remains one of the safest cities in the nation. I also invite you to take advantage of our web site and its numerous links. The site was created to bring important information to the community concerning the department’s services and programs.  The goal of this site is to advance the close connection we have with our residents.

The City of Thousand Oaks continues to have an outstanding relationship with their residents and business owners. This is exemplified in the quality of life that we enjoy here in Thousand Oaks. This is a service-oriented city and we are a service-oriented police department.  Here at the Thousand Oaks Police Department we strongly support the concept of community policing. Our focus and objective is to balance enforcement with education. We offer numerous programs and classes dealing with issues facing families within the Conejo Valley. We conduct a Citizen Academy so that residents may better know and understand their police department. This was the first Citizen Academy offered in the county. We have one of the very first Community Mediation Programs offered at a police department to work out issues and disputes between residents. The Mediation Program is housed within the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving Unit, which deals one on one with residents and business owners resolving complicated issues that are beyond the ability of a patrol officer to resolve. That being said, we give our officers the authority to spend more time on a call for service so as to find lasting solutions to local concerns.

For residents who want to get more involved in their community, we offer award winning police volunteer organizations such as the Volunteers In Policing (VIP), the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART), the Amateur Communication Service (ACS), Reserve Officer Program, Search and Rescue and an Explorer post for youth between the ages of 14 and 20 years of age.

Here at the Thousand Oaks Police Department, we prioritize the needs of our residents and work diligently to keep our children safe. We conduct classes such as the Parent Project and the Start Smart program for new drivers to assist parents and their children. We were one of the first cities in the nation to implement a Social Host Ordinance to severely fine party givers who encourage underage drinking. During this past year we held community forums at the local high schools to raise parent’s awareness of the dangers their children face in experimenting and using illegal and prescription drugs. We conduct classes on the dangers of bullying and internet safety. We have one of the first ordinances to publicize the dangers of alcohol laced energy drinks in every store where these items are sold.

All these proactive programs work as part of a master community plan of keeping our families safe. The City of Thousand Oaks and the Thousand Oaks Police Department work in partnership with parents, business owners, the school district and community groups to maintain the safe and healthful neighborhoods which we enjoy here in the City of Thousand Oaks.
