Ventura County Fire Department


The Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) provides Fire protection services , medical aid, rescue, hazardous materials response, and a variety of other services to the City of Thousand Oaks. VCFD is an all-risk, full-service fire department, composed of 553 men and women.   

The Ventura County Fire Department covers 848 square miles and serves more than 480,000 people in unincorporated areas of Ventura County and six of its cities:

Preventing, Responding, Communicating, Educating
The Ventura County Fire Department's services are built around the mission of anticipating and responding to the dynamic public safety needs of the community.


Preventing and Educating
VCFD enforces fire codes and regulations, review more than 2,800 plans a year, inspect more than 5,000 homes and businesses a year, and issue roughly 250 fire code permits and 445 film permits a year. VCFD works with more than 14,000 residents each year to create defensible space through our Fire Hazard Reduction Program and conduct hundreds of public education, fire prevention and safety programs for children, adults and seniors.  In addtion to the activities by the Fire Prevention Bureau, fire station personel conduct over 1,100 fire safety inspections a year.

Responding
VCFD backs up efforts with a dedicated team response to more than 33,500 incidents a year.  All personnel in our 31 fire stations throughout Ventura County are trained to provide the highest level of firefighting and emergency medical care to the citizens of Ventura County.  In addition to fighting fires.  VCFD responds to medical emergencies, traffic accidents, land and water rescues, hazardous materials calls, and a variety of everyday public needs.

About the Ventura County Fire Protection District
The Ventura County Fire Department is a Special District formed by a special election in 1928.  The Ventura County Board of Supervisors is the Fire District's Board of Directors.  These five elected supervisors appoint the fire chief, and task him with providing fire protection services for the district.
