Employment Applications may also be obtained from City Hall, Human Resources Department, 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd.; Thousand Oaks, CA 91362, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Applications also may be obtained by calling 805-449-2144.

FILING DEADLINE
An official City Application and a Supplemental Questionnaire, if required, must be received by the Human Resources Department by the deadline date and time stated on the job announcement. For applications mailed, postmarks will not be accepted to meet filing deadlines. Resumes may be submitted with employment applications; however, resumes do not take the place of the City application form. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept faxed applications/resumes. The City does not maintain applications or resumes for positions which are not open for recruitment. Selection Process
Employment with the City of Thousand Oaks is based on merit and ability to do the job as determined by competitive testing.

Admission to the competitive examination may be limited to the most qualified candidates from among those applicants who meet the minimum requirements (education, experience, abilities and skills). The selection process is designed to measure an applicant’s knowledge, skills and abilities, and may consist of any combination of the following: application screening, written test, performance test, technical expertise, and/or an oral board interview.

Successful candidates are placed on an Eligibility List which is typically valid for six months. As openings occur, the top candidates on the list will be invited by the hiring department to a personal interview.

Types of Job Openings

  • Open - Open to the general public and current City employees who meet the minimum qualifications for the position.

  • Promotional - Open only to current City employees who meet the minimum qualifications for the position.

The City of Thousand Oaks advertises in newspapers and professional journals. Job opportunities are posted at the Civic Arts Plaza and various City facilities, are listed on our website, and are mailed to organizations that have requested placement on the City’s mailing list. The job flyer contains information regarding the closing date for filing an application, the minimum qualifications, the job duties and benefit information based on the type of position:

  • Full-time: A permanent position scheduled for 40 hours per week on an ongoing basis. Accrues full benefits.

  • Designated part-time (DPT): A permanent position scheduled for 20-30 hours per week on an ongoing basis. Accrues partial benefits.

  • Hourly: Position scheduled for less than 20 hours per week. Does not accrue benefits.

  • Limited-term: Generally a full-time position that is budgeted for a limited time frame.
