Senior Adult City Sponsored Events

Senior of the Year Awards Ceremony and Social

Thousand Oaks is indeed fortunate to have 1,200 senior adult volunteers who contribute their time and energy to aid over 80 non-profit agencies, school and community organizations. Each year, senior adults donate approximately 275,000 volunteer hours, providing much needed support to the Thousand Oaks community.

The City of Thousand Oaks
Council on Aging (COA) dedicates an event to honor volunteers through its annual Senior of the Year Awards Ceremony and Social. The COA is accepts nominations for “Senior of the Year” from January through March for the previous year. In order to qualify, nominees must be over 60 years of age and have been a resident in Thousand Oaks for three of the past five years. Only volunteer service that benefits seniors in the community will be considered and accomplishments are for previous year.

If you know of a special person that stands out among the rest, one who has given above and beyond the call of duty assisting senior adults in the community, please encourage the agency they volunteer for to nominate them.
Nomination packets are always available The 2011 Senior of the Year Dinner and awards Ceremony will be held on June 7, 2012 at the Goebel Senior Adult Center.

The
Senior of the Year ceremony for 2010 nominees took place on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Goebel Senior Adult Center (co-sponsor of event). Honored at the event were 2010 Senior of the Year Nominees: Joanne Chang, Leonard Chapman, Lois Friss, Sally Garcia, Ron Gellenbeck, George Jones, Susan Keene, and the 2010 Senior of the year Toni Ranslem. Senior Adult Master Plan

The City continually plans for a healthy, adult-friendly community through outreach, advocacy and partnering.  City of Thousand Oaks Council on Aging, Conejo Recreation and Park District, local agencies, community senior service providers, and community members have collaboratively developed a community-wide comprehensive Senior Adult Master Plan.  This is a unique effort and a great opportunity to be involved.  Implementation of the plan depends on community volunteers.  If you are interested in finding out about this volunteer opportunity, email Councilonaging@toaks.org or call 805-381-7362.
