City Council Appoints Andrew Powers as its Next City Manager

During a Special Meeting on January 10, 2017 Thousand Oaks City Council voted unanimously to appoint Interim City Manager Andrew Powers to fill the position on a permanent basis. Powers, a nearly ten-year veteran of the City organization, has served in the interim role since July 5, 2016.

Prior to his interim role, Powers served as the Thousand Oaks Assistant City Manager since 2013 where he acted as the City’s “Chief Operating Officer” and oversaw the City’s day-to-day operations and worked closely with City Council on a variety of policy matters.

While reflecting on his new assignment, Powers stated, “Thousand Oaks is such a special place and I am honored and humbled by the City Council’s confidence in me to lead this dynamic organization. I look forward to implementing the council and community’s vision and playing a role in positioning this City for a bright future.”

Mayor Claudia Bill-de la Peña stated, "Drew has displayed the highest level of integrity, strong leadership, judgment, and commitment to the City of Thousand Oaks. He is the most qualified and best suited person to lead the organization and work towards the betterment of our entire community.”

Before arriving at the City of Thousand Oaks, Powers worked for the City of Ventura in its Civic Engagement Division managing media relations and community partnerships. Prior to relocating to California, he worked for the City of Raleigh, North Carolina overseeing marketing, corporate relations, and program development for the Parks & Recreation Department. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from North Carolina State University and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy & Administration from California Lutheran University.

Powers will begin work as City Manager immediately.
